Maiden Voyage

Let’s get back to doing what we do. The first episode will soon appear here on the website.

We’ve got a featured artist, the brilliant young singer-songwriter Niamh Corkey, who’s been releasing songs over the last year that demonstrate a prodigious talent. Her debut EP I’ll Meet You More Than Halfway There is out now.

The featured archive album takes us back twenty years to the spring of 2006, when Karine Polwart released her second album Scribbled in Chalk, and demonstrated that here was a significant artist, capable of crafting poignant songs from a catholic range of subject matter.

Featured songwriter is Chip Taylor, who we sadly lost last month. Sixties hit writer, professional gambler, elder statesman of Americana, we’ll dig into his song catalogue to reveal some hidden gems.

This show we admit was recorded a week or so ago, so it doesn’t include any of your many lovely messages of the last few days. We’ll most certainly get back to including your thoughts in future episodes.

  • I shall most definitely be listening!
Even if it is prerecorded, it’s fabulous to have the crew back on foamy brine.
Due to poor judgement and sloppy management by those who should know better; we have been on a restricted diet of good music! My compliments to those others who took the watch so admirably in your absence.

  • Desperate to listen, can’t work out how – sorry! Have heard 4 min intro, how hear actual programme?

  • Thoroughly enjoyed the first prog Iain. Karine is a real treasure and has had such a stunning career since back in the day
    Looking forward to more!
    Aw ra best.

  • Hello Iain,

This is such fab news. I have been listening to your programme on the ??? station for so many years I’ve lost count and a giant vacuum was created in my listening life which has just been filled again! You introduced me to so many artists. Could you play I’m Watching Rosanna by David Heavenor. I think this was one of the first records I followed up and bought . Bon voyage, Laura

  • So, if we all up our subs by 50% can we please go back to 3 hours shows as per a decade or so ago? Pretty please 😁

On a slightly more serious note, is it just me who thinks the vocal content between the tunes is a little treble-y? Only listened via Bluetooth to a decent-ish pair of headphones and a fairly standard VW van dashboard thing (wired android auto), both sound the same near enough.

I do have TV HDD recorder copies of the last few broadcast shows so will be comparing to see if it is just my ears.

That said, this does not detract in any way to the listening experience – I’d be happy listening to Iain sped up, slowed down or even after having wee breath of laughing gas. The (now very) old 3 hour, 3 x per week shows got me through many a 12 hour nightshift.

Thanks to all responsible for making this happen

  • How do I listen to this? Have been grieving the loss of the our ability to listen to the BBC and especially BBC Scotland here in Canada.

  • What a fantastic show for your return. Welcome back, thanks for coming back under your own power and thank you for doing what you do so incredibly well. It was a long 4 months without the remarkable talents of the Iain Anderson show but it’s truly magnificent to have you all back. The haven returns.

  • It is absolutely fabulous to hear you back on the ‘airwaves’ filling our living room with beautiful music and commentary each and every Sunday evening (or any other time for that matter!) Congratulations to Iain and the whole team. Can I ask, is there a track list posted anywhere for each episode? I did look, but might have missed it. We look forward to very many more years of sailing with you.

    • Steve, if you can find your way to the programme pages here, there are playlists on them. Or else we publish them each week on Facebook too.

  • Clearly I’m not doing something right – I see the icons for the programs, click on them, and nothing happens. How do I get to listen to them? What do I have to do?

    • Not sure what you’re doing, Kathryn-Jane! Click on “Iain Anderson – Back on Board” at the top of this page to go to our home page, and everything you need should be there.
