We’ve known Loudon Temple for many years, but were not prepared for the emergence a couple of years ago of his musical alter ego Cheery Odin. It feels like a well has been unblocked. Song after song of unlikely but true tales of friends and acquaintances, written and delivered in broad Borders dialect, paying homage to friends lost and times gone by, with humour and poignancy in equal measure.
As we get acquainted with his fourth CD, Souters, it’s only right he should be this week’s featured artist.
Plus we have a featured archive album by America, their debut album which isn’t as American as it may appear. And for our featured songwriter, we turn to the songs of Joan Armatrading, as we do from time to time, always struck by her distinctive, unassumingly intricate melodies.
