This week featuring…

This week, amidst all the usual digressions, we’ll be featuring the following…

Miwa Nagato-Apthorp is an artist from the Scottish Borders who you’ll be hearing a lot more of. Drawing songs from the land, from history, and from her dual heritage, she’s carrying the torch for new Scottish folk music.

As Iain Matthews will be celebrating his 80th birthday, we decided to go right back to the beginning of his career and the beginning of the band Fairport Convention. In their early days he shared lead vocals, before leaving to release music as Matthews Southern Comfort, Plainsong, and solo. Our featured archive album is Fairport’s debut, which is not a lot like anything else in their catalogue, but very interesting and definitely worth a spin.

It’s 85 years since Harry Nilsson was born. Sadly he left us in 1994. Perhaps known best nowadays for singing songs he didn’t write, but we’re going to remedy that by having him as our featured songwriter and playing a handful of songs from his significant catalogue.

Join us on Sunday evening at 7pm when the show is published – or any time thereafter.

  • Miwa Nagato-Apthorp: what a treat, and Harry Nilsson too – Oh how I missed the show when the BBC were in full flow wrecking Radio Scotland. Thanks for everything that the whole team do and for all of the wonderful music over so many years and the joy of having it back again.
